New Comment Policy

I am starting to notice that I am attracting more unwarranted comments of the bigoted kind. I really don’t mind criticisms, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, especially if your purpose is to engage in intelligent conversation. But when a few dipshit racist/white supremacists decide to venture out of their roach motels toting their predictable rhetoric over here, well, enough is enough. My policy was not to engage and let the racist rhetoric comments stand for the whole world to see their self-delusional lunacy. Because of these actions, I have decided to take a couple of actions. Depending on how far fetched they are, I will either edit and mock comments, such as Gringo Warrior’s comments. Such comments are meant to attack the person and not the argument.

Second, I will moderate any debate that consists of any type of incoherent form of epistemic relativism because the aim is simply to win a debate since the premises is that all truths in principle open to challenge.

Thank you for your understanding.

XP, it’s your site, and if you feel it necessary to remove these morons from the comments, I’d do it in a heartbeat. You have no obligation to put up with that crap.

People who play games of ‘one-upmanship’ to win arguements are just pathetic individuals, and not worth the effort - the indirectly racist comments of ‘Dems passing out food stamps’ on Burnt Orange would preclude me from engaging in any sort of discussion with the individual.

simón, fuck them. Let them sit impotent with their own hate. It’s one thing to disagree, and offer another view, and discuss with respect. It’s a WHOLE OTHA thing to spew malice, your intent to hurt and harm. That’s not reasonable, it’s ill intent, it’s war, and I say smack that penny-ante shit down.

    Buenas noches Simon,

Es una lastima que los idiotas como “Gringo Warrior” son tan habladores tanto como son estupidos!

As a very pale-skinned German-descended non-Latino myself, I can say with some dismay that idiots like that Gringo Warrior jerk are emerging like rats from the woodwork with increasing frequency these days. Unfortunately there are many Anglos who buy into his kind of crap, I see them at work every day– they’re generally the types who join these “English-only” movements because they’re too lazy to bother to learn Spanish themselves even it’s essential for their job, and they’re pathetically ignorant of the history of the Southwest. The rest of us have to deal with their moronic rantings every day.

As I said I’m not Latino myself, I’m straight German with a dash of Swedish (IOW I burn red like a cherry at the beach), but in my marketing job I’m in charge of dozens of people, and we’ve basically instituted a policy recently to strongly encourage Spanish proficiency (on the company’s dole for the classes) among all our employees. The best promotions and raises tend to go first to those who are capable in both spoken and written Spanish, at a professional level. Besides any political or cultural arguments, it’s flat-out good business for us– we’re in the historical region of “Old Mexico” and Alta California here in the SW where there’s been a Latino presence long antedating the Anglos in 1848, and many of our most productive efforts have come in the Spanish-language advertising section.

When I made the announcement at a department meeting on the Spanish efforts, about half the Anglos were fine with that– they saw it as an opportunity to better themselves, improve their skills in a beautiful and precise language, and reach a greater number of people. These also tended to be the better-educated among our “Anglo” population, and those who were raised in the Southwest were well aware of the tangled history of how the Manifest Destiny folks fomented a racist war against Mexico in 1846 to annex Mexican territories and spread slavery there (even the US generals themselves, like US Grant, were well aware of how cruel, corrupt and unjustifiable this brutal offensive war against Mexico was). They’re also aware of how the region never lost its Latino flavor, how US laws and treaties after 1848 have guaranteed rights to preservation of the Latino culture, language and old land titles here.

In fact, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas (as well as Florida) were all admitted to the USA with the explicit understanding on their annexation, that they would be Anglo-Latino bilingual, bicultural zones– this was the only way to halt the guerrilla warfare from 1848 among Latinos who were understandably angry at having their lands confiscated, and being walled in by a border that never should have been erected in the first place. IOW, “assimilation” in the Southwest did not mean slavishly aping the

Eric - Thanks. I should have figured out I was getting some of these types as the election is coming around. I have checked out my stats on search terms and a large majority are dealing with immigration. I even get members of Congress checking me out. Just yesterday I had somebody from the Senate reading my post on mass deportation and they were there for over 4 mins. Hold on, I think I just heard a knock on my door….j/k

That guy on Burnt Orange is an ass. Ever since I started posting there. He never commented whenever I attacked the Dems, but he sure was quick to do so on his Party. Yeah, that is the problem with people trying to argue in a ‘one-upmanship’ format, it traps you into making statements you normally would not make or working extra to prove them wrong.

bfp - Thanks and I am happy to help. Compared to the ones you get, I don’t mind hit-and-run posters. I can totally see why you get frustrated.

Nezua - you are right it is war. It is a battle of survival. As long as we have a government that brings out this type of behavior, we have to stand our ground. We are at the same point what Malcolm X described over 40 years ago, it’s either “the ballot or the bullet” in the struggle for civil rights. The solution to the civil rights struggle is to change the discrimination from a civil rights issue to a human rights issue.

Franz - Good to see you here. It is very obvious that you are very aware of the history of the southwest and thanks for bringing that up here. It goes to show, we are not making shit up when we mention it.

Thanks for sharing the policies that your company instituted and the reactions you encountered. It cannot see why people get all bent out of shape when it comes to learning another language regardless of the treaties that were signed between Mexico and the US as well as Spain. Since we do have a free trade, how can people expect to stay monolingual? Even people up in Maine are bi-lingual. The 2000 Census shows that 95% of the population speaks English and French.

Since you are a German-descended, we do share the same a common historical xenophobic outrage from people here in the US dating back to WWI. Although things have changed for those of German descent, however, it never did for those of Mexican descent.

Again, thanks for sharing, hope to see you around.
