Houston, We Have a Neo-Nazi Problem

Recently a local news, KTRK, reported on an interesting Christmas card they received from a student organization from a couple of nearby universities, University of St Thomas and Rice University. The Christmas card KTRK received was “filled with racial expletives” and “depicts Santa as a Nazi, proclaim intolerant beliefs on religion and race and triumph Adolf Hitler.”

Hmmm, I wonder who sent these Neo-Nazi fascist Christmas cards from these fine upstanding private universities. According to the news report, some of the cards came from a bogus student group called the Young Conservative Club and a bogus department, History & Social Studies.

Thus, officials call these cards bogus. That’s because there is no organization called the Young Conservative Club as the return address shows, nor is there a history or social studies department. Also, the formal name is not St. Thomas University rather University of St. Thomas.

Although there is no Young Conservative Club, it is interesting that whoever mailed those racist cards choose to use the name of far right section of the GOP known here in Texas, Toung Conservatives of Texas.

Santa Which brings up another interesting story I found from Germany’s Der Spiegel Online, entitled “Is Santa Claus a Nazi?”. The article is regarding the German public outcry over miniature statues of Santa Claus that was supposed to be pointing to his reindeer in the sky but it appeared he was giving the straight-armed salute that was a national requirement to show loyalty to Adolf Hitler. Although, this story is separate from what happened in Houston, I bring this up because the Der Spiegels article makes a swipe at the Republican Party and fascism.

According to Der Spiegel:

Christmas shoppers in Germany are horrified. Across the country, models of Santa Claus in shop windows appear to be giving the Nazi salute. Some chains have already removed them from the shelves.

If Santa Claus were to move away from the North Pole to one of the more populated parts of the world, what political party would he support? His “peace on Earth” message might indicate a left-of-center stance. But what about his Big Brother (”He knows when you’ve been sleeping. He knows when you’re awake) tendencies? Sounds a lot like the Republicans in the United States these days.

Regardless if the card comes from a bogus department at the universities or student group, the fact is, the name of this fictitious student group was named after the extreme right wing of the GOP and that should raise some flags. One would have expected a reaction from the universities but one would have hoped a party leader from the GOP would have condemned the person or individuals for sending a racist Christmas card in their name. But, what do you expect from a party that already attracts White Supremacist into their Party.
