Hypocrisy in the Church
A couple nights a ago, I was watching the news and my local news station had a story about Houston’s new graffiti law – an Orwellian law that goes after the victims, but that is not what this is about.
It is funny how mindless American media can be as they miss the forest for the trees. The local Houston news station, KHOU, reported how four local churches were immediately tagged the day Houston’s new graffiti ordinance went into effect.
It appears that a homeless man who has been seeking help from a church of all places is the villain.
“And the churches help these people and they come back and vandalize us all the time, all the time,” Gonzales said. “Not just this church but a lot of churches the same way.”
Gonzales believes the churches have become the victim of a homeless man they often reach out to help.
“He gets grudges and I think he’s not on his meds, and he just decides he wants to get a little revenge and he takes it out on the churches, the very ones that help him,” Gonzales said.
He said it’s happened before, and he thinks it’ll happen again. Graffiti, they suspect, drawn from a man in need, a man the churches will welcome back no matter what the price.
Welcome back? According to Houston police, he was turned away when he tried staying in one of the churches for the night.
Houston police said the homeless man tried to stay at one of those churches on Saturday night but was turned away.
Whatever happened to Jesus’ message about helping the downtrodden? Mt. 5:42: “Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.”
Guess things changed, it is all about – Show me da money, so you can get help.

It’s a land based on profit. Based on superficial means like youth, profit, and material items. It’s a land that’s lost its soul. But what else can one expect when a nation begins with mass murder?
It just amazes me how it is easy to vilify a person just be saying, oh he is just off his meds and how the local media just sits there and reports it as just another tagger. The guy put dollar signs on the churches. Hello, McFly! Is there anyone out there! It is obvious, this homeless guy is calling the churches a bunch selfish greedy bastards only sucking up patrons monies. Our local news know that the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is building a massive Cathedral that will be bigger than three football stadiums and they cannot see the connection of the guy’s dollar sign on the side of churches, it boggles the mind.
I don’t really attend church at all, so one of the biggest surprises of my life was the day I tried to enter into a church and the door was locked. I remember it perfectly because it was during a time when I was homeless, and I didn’t really even want to stay the night, I just wanted to feel safe, to feel surrounded by peaceful silence instead of the noise of the streets and my scared shitless mind. And I tried to get into a catholic church, and when I couldn’t I kept walking and went to another catholic church and then i went to one more church, and then I just gave up. It was the middle of the day–and in the middle of the day, there is something that the church values more than it does human beings who just need a place to feel safe. It values size, grandeur, cleanliness, beauty–it doesn’t value human beings who want to feel safe, feel close to a higher being.
