Mayor Bill Purcell Has the Right Idea
From the same state where a small town that was considering banning all Hispanics from their city parks, Nashville, TN’s Mayor, Bill Purcell, has finally said Basta to all the Englishnistas.
According to AP, today, Mayor Bill Purcell vetoed a measure that would have made English the official language of Nashville. Purcell said that the measure was “unconstitutional, unnecessary and mean-spirited.” Purcell went to say that the
“ordinance does not reflect who we are in Nashville. If this ordinance becomes law, Nashville will become a less safe, less friendly and less successful city, Purcell said. And as mayor, I cannot allow that to happen.
Thank you Mayor Bill Purcell and the 14 members of Nashville’s Metro Council who standing up against the 23 xenophobes on this matter.
The measure would have required all government documents to be in English, except when multilingual communications are required by federal rules or are needed “to protect or promote public health, safety or welfare.” And to prove that this draconian law wouldn’t just hurt Latinos, the measure would have affected the nation’s largest Kurdish community. Nashville is also considered a resettlement site for refugees from Africa and Southeast Asia.
As long as let the anti-immigration foes create wedge issues, we continue to be a nation divided. The open toxicity that is vented from pundits like Bill O’Reilly, Lou Dobbs, Pat Buchanan, John Gibson, Michelle Malkin, and Jim Gilchrist are sole reason this country is seeing a rise in white supremacy groups. As long as they are allowed to strike fear into the hearts of their audience, we are guaranteed to see a rise in hate crimes. Deborah Lauter, Anti-Defamation League’s civil rights director recently said
“If any one single issue or trend can be credited with reenergizing the Klan, it is the debate over immigration in America. New groups [are] sprouting in parts of the country that have not seen much activity.”
The only way to counter this, is if more people like Nashville’s Mayor Bill Purcell are willing to stand up to the bigotry and indifference that is engulfing the hearts and minds of white Amerikkka like a cancer.
