Rage Against the Machine’s Wake Up and More Reunion News
OK folks, one week from today, Apr. 29, is the Rage Against the Machine reunion we all have been waiting for. I hate to it, but I just have to tut my own horn on this one! Let’s just say, I was so on the money that RATM were getting back together and how my little plan would work. I know Tom Morello told Billboard.com back in March that the band is uncertain about its future, after they finish the handful of shows already announced. But there is still more evidence that they patched things up.
Because on April 14, 2007, Morello and Zach de la Rocha reunited for the first time on stage in downtown Chicago at a Coalition of Immokalee Workers rally in support of fairness in the fast food industry. This is what Morello told Launch Radio Networks:
“We worked the entire set up 20 minutes before we went onstage, but it went pretty well. It was very exciting for everybody in the room, myself included. I mean, the place was just packed to the rafters and even the stage was packed with this ring of 25 photographers two feet away from us while we were playing, so it was kind of a trippy, you know, way to do our first show. But it was a great cause and we were happy to be a part of the Immokalee farmworkers victory.”
It looks like the reunion has been planed since last year, and this bit of information is now coming out. In an interview at the end of MarchMorello said that the Rage rebirth occurred last fall “when it was clear there was not going to be any Audioslave touring in the immediate future.” And also talked about how they patched things up and how rehearsals are going.
Bassist Tim Commerford and Rage frontman Zack De La Rocha “had re-established a friendship,” and after some discussions, the band - which also includes drummer Brad Wilk - “all got together and decided (playing some shows) would be great.”
The group has already started rehearsing, Morello says, and “it sounds awesome in the room. We remember how to play those songs; it’s pretty much like riding a bike.”
But here is the cherry-on-top on how I that they would regroup. This is what Morello told Billboard:
“Right now there are four shows booked… that’s all that’s on the docket.” However, he adds that, “These times, I think, demand a voice like Rage Against the Machine to return. Rage was certainly the most outspoken radical voice in music in the ’90s, and the seven years that Rage was away the country went to hell. So I think it’s overdue that we’re back.”

Dearest XicanoPwr . . .
You, your wisdom, and now your taste in music have always impressed me. Congratulations on the acknowledgement and perhaps, changing the cosmos.
I am just sad that I always seem to miss them. I was in Chicago a week before they performed there this April. Zach de la Rocha and Tim Commerford attended University High School, in Irvine California. When I lived in this glorious city, Uni was one of my old frequent and favorite haunts. I am told that they periodically performed at the school; however, never when I was there. Crank the volume up . . .
Betsy - Thank you!!! Even though it may not be said out load, I like to think I did my part. What is interesting, even though this blog is not a RATM fan site, however, when it come to search terms on how people found my site, it just happens to be number one according to my blog stats, and the top key word search is “rage against the machine are getting back together.”
I had a chance to meet them when they were together, but something came up and were unable to come down here to Houston. I just hope this time around, if they do happen to reunite and come down to here, I will be there for sure.
