The Chicano National Anthem: Lowrider

I just finished watching the 2007 NCLR ALMA Awards. The ALMA Awards honors the accomplishments made by Hispanics in film and television in 2006. The awards show is sponsored by the National Council of La Raza and hosted by Eva Longoria. Anyway, after George Lopez received his award, he got to jam with the band War. The theme song for Lopez’s sitcom, George Lopez, is WAR’s “Low Rider.” As he was walking towards the band, he dubbed the song as the Chicano National Anthem.
And now, without further ado WAR’s “Lowrider”

As for Lopez’s show, he is correct when he said “TV just became really, really white again” after he found out his show is being canceled. If anybody really cares, I feel we as a community should boycott ABC and Disney.

Oh no fair. We get “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” and y’all get “Low Rider” as an anthem?! You win this round of the Oppression Olympics until Diddy makes a functional remix for us!

bfp – yeah there is something about this song, the wakes up the Chican@s spirit.
Sylvia – It would be interesting to see Diddy do a remix. We might have won this round, but in the overall scheme of things, it is a tie.
War’s Lowrider as the chicano national anthem ? I really feel blessed on this seeing that we get 2 anthems. Malo with thier hit “suavecito” was also dubbed as the chicano national anthem. And hey its 2 great songs you can listen to wherever you go.
If you guys are Chicano, you all need to reapply! Savor a mi is, was and will always be the Chicano National Anthem!
