Rain, rain, go away

This morning, I woke up energized and ready to do some protesting since I had planned on going to the protest of Corrections Corporation of America in Austin, TX today. Somehow, today was not meant to be. When I woke up this morning, I woke up to heavy showers and thunderstorms. This has been going for a month and a half now and I wish it would stop.

When the rain finally stopped, I figured I still can make to Austin. If there is no traffic, it can take roughly 2 1/2 hours. Well, the storm may have stopped here in Houston, but not west of Houston so in the end I was forced to turn back around because one, the rain came down hard where I could not see, which tends to bring flashbacks of a near death accident I had on the highway few years back; and two, I heard it was worse on my way Austin. Sigh, such is life I guess, but I guess the bright side, I get to live to fight another day.

Here are some photos of what it is like for the past month:

I am hoping that tomorrow will be a better day, so I can go to the Hutto Prison Vigil Protest 11 over in Taylor, TX which is close to Austin. My plans are to take my digital camera and video camera and post them on here. That is what I was hoping to do for todays event. Hopefully, with a little prayer the Rain Gods will be kind to me tomorrow.

¡Hasta la victoria siempre!

I don’t think I will be able to do Houston. There are three of us from cali going and I doubt they would want to do the drive. You know how it is, the trampled rights of the minority and all. ;-)

I’ll see what they say either way, but if you are planning to be in the Austin area anytime from Thursday night through Monday afternoon, let me know.

HP awww dude, sorry to hear that, you actually caught me in a really in a bad time, I am moving into my new digs. Any other time, I would have said yeah. I think y’all would enjoy Austin. It is very diverse, y’all find your stereotypical Texan wearing the cowboy get up (I know y’all cali people will enjoy that one) to your raging tree-hugging hippies. I would have told ya to make sure your Austinite friend takes you out on 6th street, but when I was in Austin last week, dude, the whole city is different.

I’ve been to Austin a couple of times before…one of my really good friends from college moved there from the bay area so I try to visit yearly. He now lives right behind the University of Texas golf course. Austin is nice and I’m sure it has a lot of diversity for Texas, but honestly, I’m not too big on the city. Being that I am Cali born and raised, there are too few Latinas in Austin for my taste (an important difference for a single guy like myself) not to mention the Texas heat. But it’s still fun to get together with old friends and have drunken nights on the town.

Sucks about the timing but I should be there again…probably summer of next year. So we can always do it then. Maybe then I can visit Houston and you can show me what the fifth ward is all about. Though I suspect the Ghetto boys aint got nothin on the CPT. 8-)
