Seven Factoids
I’ve been tagged! (By Dan of Fitness for the Occasion):
These are the rules:
1) Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
2) Share 7 facts about yourself.
3) Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
4) Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
Ok, first the tagging: Problem Chylde, Jazz from Hell, Latino Politics, Matt Ortega, Pro Immigrant, The Mahatma X Files, The Mex Files.
Here are 7 facts about me:
1) When I was around 7, my family went on a family vacation to this place called Fort Clark Springs in Brackettville, TX. North of that town is a place called Alamo Village, which is an active movie set where they shot John Wayne’s The Alamo. The year that we went they were filming some movie there and that had a big impression on me. When my parents dropped me off at the resort’s day care center, I had found a feather. One of the staff members asked me where did I get the feather and set off a chain of events. I let my imagination go wild. I told the lady I was part of the movie and I played a little Indian boy. She actually believed the tall tale I was telling her. At the end of the day, when my parents arrived, the staff couldn’t help but compliment my on how proud they must have been because I was in the movies. When my parents started questioning them, I ran out of the place so fast to hide.
2) I actually was an extra in a movie. I was in Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell. I thought I would be coming out a lot because I happened to be used a lot, well, I only came out in one scene. It is quick, but you can see me. My sister claims I was looking into the camera. However, I did will $100 in a raffle.
3) In college, I almost pledged an African-American fraternity, only to drop because I wanted to create the first Latino based fraternity of the University of Texas. There was a fraternity on campus that consisted a majority of Latinos, however, the fraternity was not Latino based. During the beginning phases forming a colony of an existing national Latino fraternity, we faced a lot of obstacles to get it off the ground and in the end, I wasn’t able to accomplish me goal.
4) For what its worth, I had my picture taken with Bill Clinton, when he was President.
5) When I was in graduate school, I ran for President of the University’s Student Government Association, since the university did not have a Graduate Student Government. I came in second.
6) I entered a martial arts tourney in my 20s. I won my matches not because I was a better fighter, I won because I was short and my opponent kept hitting me in the head. I ended up winning third place. I could have won second, but I was deducted points because I finally couldn’t take getting my ass kick anymore. I ended up losing points because after I lost it, I continued going after the guy after the ref stopped the round.
7) I really had to dig deep to come up with these factoids.
Now you know a little more about me.

What kind of martial arts was it? Good stuff.
Groundhog Day! I love that movie! I’m gonna look for you next time I catch it on cable.
Martial arts? It has always been my view that the angerier person wins the fight which is why I didn’t do well in my self-defense class (which I only took after the advise of other bloggers). I couldn’t follow the rules, I just wanted to release pent up danger. I totally won the fight thu.
omg, why is the idea of xp going all vato on some white dudes martial art kicking ass cracking me up so much????? LOLOLOL…kick me in the head one more time, pinche white boy, I DARE you!!!!
I guess I’ll have to try to make it through ground hog day so I can see you!!!
Uh, brownfemipower, how do you know his opponent was white?
XP, the Texas story was hilarious.
Yarrrrrr.
Its cool to know you ran for office when in grad school. Did you debate anyone?
The type of martial arts I studied was kung fu and I actually studied under una Latina.
Now that it is several years later, it is a funny story and I can’t help but not laugh. BFP, your image is pretty much spot on.
I have decided that I rather release my pent up frustration on a racquetball. I is easier, the ball the doesn’t hit back … LOL.
Dan, I did one debate and walked out on one of them. The debate I did was televised and I can be honest with myself, I didn’t do that well. I debated based on reactions and not logic. I was actually looking forward to the other debate but, the debate was not step up fairly. Even the election supervisor agreed with me. Even though the university was a commuter campus, the student government election, was your typical greek system (frat and sororities) vs. non-greeks. I do have to say, I did learn a lot.
If you have seen the movie, the scene I came out in is right before Bill Murray kidnaps the groundhog.
i can sympathize with being short in martial arts…except i did that in middle school. and now it’s a continual battle because at clubs, i always get elbowed in the head!
that feather-alamo story is great! you must have been a creative kid. oh, and i went to u.t. too.
