Latinos be Representin’ on American Idol

Normally, I don’t watch American Idol, however, the rest of my family are big fans. I am here in Austin and this evening I was watching who are going to be the top 24, 12 men and 12 women, who will sing for your votes starting next week. After weeks and weeks of watching auditions, it this season, Latinos will be representin, 4 3 men and 1 Latina. (Updated: 2/14/07)

Proportional Latino representation on American Idol? Now I can sleep easily at night!
In all seriousness, who gives two diamond-encrusted shits about Latinos “representin’ on American idol? Let me know when Latinos “be representin’ in the U.S. Senate. The only downside of Obama being elected President will be that the U.S. Senate will lose its only Senator of color.
While it is easy to view post as being outside the purview of what this blog is about. However, I do feel it is important in order to create change, we must be willing to reach those who are unwilling to gain knowledge of anything outside American Idol. The aim of this post is to capture potential long term readers for those who happen to find this post on Google. Is it working? I don’t know, but I do know there are a lot people out there who are interested in knowing if there are any Latinos on this season of American Idol.

Latino representation is important in EVERYTHING!!! I agree we need to have more of a presence in congress and the administration, but we must remember that the media is quite possibly the only “link” to the outside world for a lot of people, Hispanics included. So, the few latinos on American Idol is a great thing indeed!! We have representation on CNN and other news channels as well. Go Raza!!
