The Race for the Texas Hispanic Vote
As the March 4 Texas primary are nearly arriving, both Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barak Obama are looking for ways to woo the Latino vote here in Texas. However, they are finding out that the Latino community here in Texas is really complex. I do have to hand it to team Obama in their creativity. Sure Obama is using the famous Si se Puede meme, but that doesn’t really fly here in the Lone Star State. Throughout the campaign season, the IL Senator has reverted to using music to woo the Latino votes. How can we forget that early on in the campaign season, we were introduced Obama ringtones. The Obama campaign decided to summarize their message in a series of ring tones featuring reggaetón beats along with the candidate’s sound bites on health care and the Iraq war. The group that did this medially of tunes came from the folks of Amigos de Obama, but actually from Nueva Vista Media. And why not, music has the power to cause emotions to well up within us. These feelings are gripping - often irresistible - and seem to emerge from nowhere. Nothing shows just how serious you are about immigration, education, the Iraq war or healthcare reform like a techno beat. Watch the Como Se Dice? Como Se Llama? OBAMA! OBAMA! video.
Well the group has done it again. Instead of reggaetón, they decided to do a video aimed at us Tejanos to the tune of mariachi music because you know, we luvs us some mariachi music. (h/t to Mike from Jazz from Hell)
Gotta love how we are being wooed down here in Tejas.

I know that I still have to respond to your “tagged” remark re: books. I promise that I will get around to it this weekend. I’m also impressed w/ these Barack Obama videos, but of course, many of us know that it takes more than music to sway us.
