Texas GOP Show Their True “Color” at State Convention

The racist Republican attacks on Barack Obama have begun. Last week, Christy Hoppe of The Dallas Morning News’ Trail Blazers blog reported on a controversial button that was sold during the Texas GOP convention in Houston, Texas. The button that touched off a firestorm throughout the blogosphere and the country had said, “If Obama is elected President . . . will we still call it The White House?”

The button was sold by Jonathan Alcox, owner of Republicanmarket.com. He told reporters he sold only four buttons, including one to a news photographer. According to The Associated Press, he later apologized and said he did not intend to offend anyone. “We’re into humor, not racism,” said Alcox.

In an attempt to distance itself from the controversial vendor, the Texas GOP has barred Alcox from booth space at future events. Hans Klingler, spokesman for Republican Party of Texas, said, “This vendor need not apply to another Texas GOP state convention. We will neither tolerate nor profit from bigotry.” In addition to barring him from future events, the state GOP party will also donate the proceeds they received from Alcox for leasing the booth to victims of the flooding in the Midwest, according to The Conservative Voice.

While the media were focused on that one Obama pin, they overlooked at the other offending buttons he sold at the convention that Hoope also pointed out. It seems Jonathan Alcox also was trying to find the humor in deporting immigrants. One button at the convention said “Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation,” which can also be found on his website. Another button says from his website says, “Send the Illegals back and the Liberals with ‘em.” Other interesting buttons include, Obama asking if he could be Vice President if he drives Hillary Clinton home.

Who says Republicans don’t have class?

Hey, is that you talking on the podcast?
We blogged on the racism that will surely become mainstream during this campaign.
Thanks for addressing the issue on your blog.
We’re on the issue as well, anything that smacks of racism we will blog about it as well.

Hey leesee, no that is not me. It is a text-to-voice service that does it for free.

I think it is important that we call it out quickly before it does get out of control. Thanks for the heads up, I will make sure to point out your site the next time you discover another incident.

Well, what is Obama asking? That wouldn’t make sense. It’s Ted Kennedy who is asking Obama. Get it now?
