South Texas: It’s like a war zone.
Hurricane Dolly wreaks havoc in South Texas. From the Rio Grande Guardian:
It’s like a war zone. I do not know how else to describe the Bahia Mar Resort and Conference Center following the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Dolly.
The first floor has disintegrated and it is covered in glass. The executive offices are gone. One wall has been blown out. A big plate glass window next to the lobby was shattered and all the guests have had to be moved to the employee lounge area, which is the safest part of the hotel.
The Bahia Mar Resort and Conference Center’s general manager, Everett Shands Caskey, surveyed the damage.
“The hotel is gone. It is amazing. There is no wall on one side of the 8th floor. The Las Ventanas nightclub has been demolished. My office, it’s all gone,” Caskey said.
A TV crew from CBS has been staying in the hotel and they will have video of the damage on the 5.30 p.m. national news, Caskey said.
When the film crew came back to the hotel they said Padre Boulevard is like a raging river. The sea was surging in from the Laguna Madre, they said.
Will update when I hear more. Stay safe my South Texas brothers and sisters!
