Meeting Eduoard Head On

Everything is ok here in Houston, which is a good thing. It looks like it remained a tropical storm. I have a major problem with our local media who have felt they needed to scare us. I think our weather forecasters along with our local media were hoping for something really big and bad to happen just like Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The problem in doing something like that, it would have created chaos which is not good. It would have been impossibel to evacuate the people in an orderly fashion. Eduoard formed on Sunday and made landfall today, Tuesday. To evacuate 4 million plus people would have made it impossible, not matter if it is the best-laid plans of mice and men.

I remember when Rita reached a cat 5 hurricane and taking aim at us. The city and the surrounding areas was all in chaos despite what people heard. People ran out of gas, people stranded on all the evacuation routes….it was bad. So bad, there was no way for me to leave Houston. To tell you the truth, I was scared out of my mind, the streets were being fix and the pipes were laying out in the open. If Rita did come, those pipes would have acted like missiles. I saw what Katrina did, Houston could have ended up like NOLA.

In retrospect, instead of trying to dissmiss Eduoard, I think think our local media should have reminded us that if Eduoard hit, it could turn out to be like Tropical Storm Allison of 2001, which flooded the entire city of Houston. But no, they didn’t, they kept trying to make a story out of nothing. And then they wonder why people don’t listen to them, which was obviously displayed by KPRC local reporter Mariza Reyes, when she was whining that nobody was listening to her about staying away from Galveston beach. In her frustration, she told beach goers who did not heed her warning, “Curiosity killed the cat.”

Our city leaders called this a training exercise since we are still in the middle of the hurricane season. I like to think we were just lucky the city was not forced to go into extreme measures. Just my dos centavos of the situation.

Your photos make quite the contrast with NASA’s pic from aboard the ISS:

Hey Len, that is a major contrast. If that is what it looked like up, it sure did not feel like it.
