Cecilia Munoz, NCLR’s VP for policy, pointed out that NCLR had launched of the WeCanStoptheHate.org campaign back in Jan to address the surge of hate and violence in the immigration debate. To the drive the point home, Cecilia briefly discussed the sentencing of Christopher Michael Szaz
Christopher Michael Szaz was sentenced today in North Carolina for emailing a death threat to the staff of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR). Szaz plead guilty to one count of threat by force via email communication to NCLR. He was sentenced to 45 days in federal prison and has to serve 100 hours of community service. In his email to NCLR, Szaz referred to Hispanics using a racial epithet and threatened to kill members of the staff and splay their bodies. NCLR and other community advocates believe that this has to be seen as a part of a larger pattern of hate directed at immigrants, as the debate on immigration continues to loom in the national psyche. Szaz’s prosecution sends an important message to others engaging in this type of action that it is a federal crime punishable in a court of law.
Cecilia reiterated what many of us have been saying within the Latino community, which is there has been a sea change in the level, volume, and ferocity of verbal and written attacks against members of the Latino community. Personally, I can vouch for that the number of hate filled comments I refuse release out in the open on this blog.
Cecilia as mentioned the recent “blame the immigrant” on current financial crisis. This is being pushed by Michelle Malkin, the Right’s Asian Pitbull. Ironic ain’t it?
“But there’s one giant paternal elephant in the room that has slipped notice: how illegal immigration, crime-enabling banks, and open-borders Bush policies fueled the mortgage crisis.”
I guess it is time to fess up because Michelle Malkin is getting all wrong. Yes, there is a secret Latino plan to take over this county. Instead of a straight out invasion, we figure if the financial industry invest in us, it will eventually bring the country to its knees as the financial industry spirals out of
control. When it get so bad, people will be begging us to take back our stolen land.
But, we can’t do it alone, we needed the African American community to go along with us. In order to get them to be part of this plan, we agreed to support a black man for president. However, it had to make this look real, because we knew the the Malkin’s and Lou Dobb’s would see right through our plan. To make it real, we had to run our own Latino for President, hence Bill Richardson. This was done so we came make it seem Latinos will never support a black man and it worked. Now that it is all said and done, the Latinos will unify and vote for Obama.
Anybody buying to this?
Something is wrong in America, folks. This kind of sensationalist hype done by Michelle Malkin is troubling. The fact that people like her and those who buy into these fallacies show we are slowly becoming a society that cares little about facts and reality or serious policy ideas and respectful debate, but rather is a nation moved by anger and ridicule, fear and nationalism.
This time I don’t think I want to be nice about it. Too many people’s lives have been utterly ruined by all of this.

Good first, short but sweet call. I liked Marissa’s comment and it’s getting me thinking….
I agree, it was a good “getting your feet wet” conference call with bloggers for NCLR.
Malkin’s comments are outrageous! I ask the same question: Does anyone care about facts? If the Malkin/Dobbs viewers don’t seek outside of these two sources for news, they will never be well informed. This financial crises has very little to do with the people and less to do with immigrants. Most immigrants don’t buy things they can’t afford. If they do, they use cash not credit. The highest revenue areas in Texas are sales and property tax, these two bring in most of the revenue for the city. Are illegals not paying them, I think so! It’s time for all of us to be aware of deceit in the media. To identify this problem, I advocate reading a book once in a while America! What is wrong with the American people? Melkin/Dobbs and people alike should be charged for contributing to these hate crimes as they are also to blame. It’s a sad day when racism is encouraged by the media, especially when a large number of low iq’s use certain programs as their only source of information. The country’s downfall has come at the hands of it’s people, yes, but only because we haven’t held our government responsible for their actions.
