Molina Soleil is a hip emcee, poet, playwright and performance artist from Colorado. He uses his artistic abilities for activism and social justice education. As an educator and activist, he reflects on his complex upbringing and difficult life choices. He recently hit me up on a Def Jam Poetry type video he did, which he reflects on the complexity of having multiple identities – “Chicano / Xicano / Mexicano / Indigenous / Mestizo / Brown / Mexican-American / Human” – and what it means “being brown” in the US. I have to say, I liked it and worth viewing. It had me reflecting on my own identity too.
