Today, we celebrate Cesar Chavez’s birthday. Since 2000, only eight states have made this day a holiday - Arizona, California, Colorado, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. In Washington, members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and others have pushed for a federal holiday since Chávez’s death in 1993.
